Hello and welcome to the latest update on the Manukau Auto Centre Top Half Rally Series.
With two rounds gone we are now at our half way point, it seemed such a long time between the first two rounds but with them now done and dusted, the next two are going to be in very quick succession.
But, before we move onto this topic I’d like to apologies for a mistake I made when collecting the registrations, I put Dylan Thomson and his co-driver Amy Hudson into the wrong 4wd class, it’s since been noted, rectified and now there in the right class……and lying 2nd, and second overall within the series. This now puts Ben Thomasen into the lead of class D, group A 4wd, Dylan is now running in class C.
The previous round, the Coromandel rally was an extremely misty and damp event, resulting in many not making the finish line, prize giving had only half the trophies actually given out! So fingers crossed for the next round that we have a higher finishing rate. A full report and photos from the Coromandel rally will be in “A little bit sideways”
September 21st see’s the series move to the Far North for the Copthorne Bay of Islands Far North Rally, round 3 of the series, then it’s down to the Waikato for the final round the Handy Rentals Hamilton Rally Of Waitomo on the 19th October.
Now, getting back to those points tables, obviously the full tables can be found elsewhere on this website and on www.chrissport.nz were you will find quite an in-depth summary of not only the points tables but everything you need to know about who did what regarding stage times, retirements and penalties, it’s a great site and well worth a look.
After two rounds we have Dylan Tuner leading the series on 59pts in his awesome Audi, Dylan Thomson on 47pts in his Subaru and then the Welsh Wizard Anthony Jones on 39pts in his MK2 Escort.
In the classes we have Robbie Stokes leading the class A, for 2wd cars upto 1750cc in his Fiesta. Over 1750cc in class B for 2wd we have Anthony Jones. Class C, open 4wd its Dylan Turner and 4wd, group A….which is basically classic 4wd we have Ben Thomasen with his Subaru.
We now have the names put forward for the “Driver of the Rally”, a trophy being presented at our main awards for “Driver of the series”. This trophy is being put up by Jason Byrne of “A Little Bit Sideways” for the most trying driver of the series, each round we have three drivers names put forward. From the Coromandel rally those drivers are…..Dylan Turner, Mike Goldsbury and Anthony Jones.
So, there we have it, a quick update, but before I sign off I’d like to thank the people involved in helping get this series up and running , our main sponsor Daniel Alexander of Manukau Auto Centre. Charlie and Jenny Evans of Newstead Lodge Boarding Kennels & Cattery and Jason Byrne of a little Bit Sideways…….New Zealands only dedicated rally magazine.
See you all in Paihia for round 3.
