Hi everyone,Only a few more sleeps till round 2 of the Manukau Auto Centre Top Half Rally Series, its seems like ages since round 1, so hopefully your all keen and eager to hit the gravel this coming Saturday.
Round 2 see’s the crews head to the Coromandel Peninsula and the coastal town of Whitianga for the start, and finish of the Dayle ITM Goldrush Rally of Coromandel.
62 crews will start the event on Friday evening, it’s great to see many of the crews actually registered for the Top Half Rally series, several of them making the huge trip up from the South Island, good luck to these guys and safe travels.
It looks like it’s going to be a fantastic battle up at the front of the series, at present we have Hamilton’s Stephen Barker on 32 points, followed by Pukekohe’s Dylan Turner on 27 points with Tauranga’s Phil Campbell on 23 points and all are running this weekend, these guys are all class C runners, open 4wd.
South Islander Robbie Stokes is leading class A, the 2wd class for cars upto 1750cc, From Cambridge we have Anthony Jones leading the class for 2wd cars over 1750cc. Last, but not least we have another South Islander, Christchurch driver Dylan Thomson leading the D class, 4wd group A vehicles. All these will be competing this weekend.
The next round is going to be very interesting indeed, round 3 The Copthorne Bay of Islands Far North Rally, as this is a stand-alone clubman’s rally it will be interesting to see who actually makes the trip North. The first two rounds of the Top half series have both been aligned to the National Rally Championship and offer a more “higher profile” event. However the Northland rally has a huge reputation for some cracking roads, set in the stunning Bay of islands it’s been a must do rally for many clubmen.
The regs are out and can be found on the Auckland Car Club website www.aucklandcarclub.org.nz
Now, back to this weekend’s event, Don’t forget we will be having prize giving for the Top Half Rally Series Drivers & Co-Drivers, It will be held in conjunction with the main prize giving, so see you all there, enjoy the event and drive safely.
